Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space

Bristol’s Tectonic Recordings bring us something a bit special from Hopeton Brown a.k.a. Scientist. The legendary dub engineer drops a release packed full of exclusive remixes alongside fresh, unreleased material from the likes of Pinch, Guido, Shackleton and Kode 9. You need ‘Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space’ in your life…

What happens when you bring together one of Jamaica’s most revered dub engineers and a whole raft of ultra modern music makers? Good shit, that’s what!

Scientist has utilised all of his experience in the dark arts of dub to enhance, rework, tinker and tailor already blistering tracks into a set of challenging and intricate dub versions. Roots and the contemporary collide in a melting pot of urban sound-scapes. Scientist brings a bass weight and aesthetic presence from the original Jamaican sound and combines it with similar themes, which are found in these tracks from the vanguard of dubstep.

Reshaping the futuristic surfaces of Guido’s ‘Korg Back’ or Pinch & Emika’s ‘2012’ brings a radical realignment of the track’s emotional tone. Brown flips on the dubby potential of vocalists such as Dokkebi Q’s Hitomi and poet Roger Robinson in King Midas Sound’s ‘U’ or the dreaded vibes of Spaceape on Kode 9’s ‘Abeng’. Shackleton’s ‘Hackney Marshes’ evolves into a hypnotically minimal journey through riddim. Mala DMZ’s ‘City Cycle’, already a bass-bin punishing heavyweight, reaches now depths, while Loefah & Sgt. Pokes’ ‘Dog Money’ will realise many a dub-fiend’s most feverish dreams with their new super dub styles.

To coincide with the release of ‘Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space’, the man himself will be on tour throughout November and Disconnected have a couple of pairs of tickets to give away.
