With their latest EP released this month, Disconnected took a little time to hear from emerging production duo, Plant Plants.
Hi there Plant Plants, how you doing?
Outrageous.
It was one in a long list of name suggestions we’d texted back and forth to each other when we started out. We honestly didn’t really think too much about it.
Star Gazing, research in to new and old technology, Ralph Bakshi’s animated films of the seventies, Penny Arcade comics, Desperados, blaze, The Wicker Man.
Both been in bands/DJ’ing from a young age. Grew up listening to everything from 90’s sample based hip hop & Sonic Youth to video game scores & 80’s porno flicks.
Anything and everything. Production and beats wise… Probably Wu-tang and The Prodigy, guitars and vocally everything from Frank Zappa to Ethiopiques.
We formed PP in 2010 after both our old bands split, we had a pretty clear idea about what we wanted to do and where to go with the sound. We’s known each other for a few years and writing together seemed to click for us straight away.
“The Wizard”.

The people at Less heard our demos, and were loosely affiliated with Jas. We had a chat and they said “put out whatever you want” and we said “cool”. Then we all high-fived and chanted “party”.
We pretty much camped out in the SMD studio for 2 weeks. We got on really well with Jas, so working closley together was easy. He’s a great guy to work with and knew exactly how to execute the ideas we had in terms of sound and loads of ideas himself to pimp the mix. We all love effects and musical gadgets and were like kids in a candy store.
The EP wouldn’t sound the way it does if Jas hadn’t mixed it with us.
Gorillas In The Mist vs. Jaws.
We begin mixing our next batch of tunes in the next few months. There’s a good chance we’ll have another EP out by the end of the year.
We’re thinking about getting huge Plant Plants tattoos designed by Mo Rah Man. We’re also planning on taking a whole load of magic mushrooms again and writing some weird shit.
Plant Plants’ latest EP is out on digital download June 26th. For more info, check out their MySpace.
