Disconnected get to know Jacques Greene

We have been eagerly awaiting each one of Jacques Greene’s release for a while now, listening wasn’t enough though, we had to get to know him a bit better, so we sent him a few quick questions…here’s what he had to say for himself…

Easy now Jacques, how’s it going, what’s new?

I’m OK. It’s officially really really really really really cold in Montreal.

Can you give us a snap shot of your background, you know, away from music?

I work in visual communication. I like good and bad movies, books, fashion I can’t afford, good coffee.

How did you get into electronic music?

I came across Aphex Twin and Boards of Canada at a fairly young age. Been hooked on synths/samplers and the general universe of electronic music ever since.

What’s the track that you are most proud of?

I wouldn’t really be able to say. You can’t be too proud of what you’ve done, only of what you aspire to do. I’m way way way too young to start looking back or anything like that. Every single new thing I make or discover about myself, or one of my machines is my proudest moment, for sure.

What’s it like being a part of the Night Slugs crew?

Well, given that I’m the only one in Montreal with Night Slugs affiliation it doesn’t totally feel like being part of a “crew” so to speak. However, appearing on the same CD and the same articles as such friendly and talented people is humbling and really great.

Can you tell us a bit about your studio set up?

It’s mostly analog and stuff, but I don’t try to be an audio elitist or anything. I’ve sampled Youtube in the past (the contemporary cultural equivalence of sampling worn out vinyl?) and record all my synths and drum machines through a mediocre sound card most of the time. I got some old Roland stuff, a Korg MS-20, some newer analog, and this eurorack modular I acquired the parts for over a year ago.

What’s next in the pipeline?

Releasing this track titled ‘Another Girl’ alongside two remixes from the Look, one by Mark Flash of Underground Resistance, and the other by Braiden. I’m a huge fan of both artists and their remixes. It’ll be out on Lucky Me in late February/early March! Otherwise just trying to keep it moving – would love to do a collaboration record with some R&B vocalists, make some techno, maybe things with no drums, who knows?

Who would you most like to work with?

Cassie is up there. Nicolas Jaar seems like he’d be an interesting guy to just sit around with and exchange ideas. I’ve yet to see if I can properly work alongside someone else.

What shows in Europe have you got coming up?

Quite a few! A month solid starting in early March right through to April 4th!
