Hot off techno heavy-weight Fergie’s ‘Excentric Muzik’ is a new collaboration from Belgium’s Marco Bailey & Tom Hades, the former having really impressed me with his release ‘Congonhas’ on Christian Smith’s ‘Tronic’ label back in June.
The EP comprises two peak time techno stompers in ‘Always Valid’ and ‘Lust & Romance’. Starting subtly, Always Valid soon drops a big pulsing bass line that I’m sure any respectable clubber would find impossible not to be moved by. The ‘pots and pans’ sounding percussion is great and gives the track a totally different feel. Accompanied by a simple gritty yet hypnotic synth line, sweeping drops and a massive kick to really punch through on a nice big sound system, Always Valid is sure to become a favorite with many big room acts.
At first glance, Lust & Romance sounds like a worryingly similar track comprised of the same big kick, a driving bass line and tight percussion. Building from this however, comes a quiet moody piano loop and brilliantly paranoid sounding string synths, which build up slowly to explosive drops drawing everything together in what is in fact, a very tightly produced package.
Both tracks are well crafted and extremely polished, putting well known sounds together in a not so familiar format. But let’s get to the point: they’re both absolute weapons. And to be honest, destroying dance floors is never a bad thing is it?
Looking at the support the release has gathered it seems the likes of John Digweed, Slam, Carl Cox, Dubfire and Max Cooper to name a but a few, aren’t disagreeing with me.
